Gov. Kemp endorses Echols for PSC against Muns
Primary winner will face Johnson in November election
Gov. Brian Kemp has endorsed incumbent Tim Echols for the Public Service Commission over Lee Muns, who is challenging him in the primary for the District 2 seat.
In his endorsement, Kemp touted Echols' conservative bona fides and record of looking out for the interests of Georgia energy consumers, both citizens and businesses alike.
“I am proud to support Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols for re-election because he has fought for hardworking Georgians throughout his service to our state,” the endorsement states.
“Tim is a trusted conservative leader who has championed the best interests of ratepayers, helped job creators start, operate, and grow in the Peach State, and worked to expand opportunity in every community. Please join me in supporting Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols for re-election!”
On May 21, Kemp held a press conference regarding Georgia Power's commitment to a three-year base rate freeze.
Kemp called the rate freeze decision a direct result of the PSC’s good work, and he hailed the Plant Vogtle expansion as a "perfect example" of how collaboration between utility companies and the PSC is benefiting Georgia households and businesses.
According to his page on the PSC’s website, Echols wrote the December 2017 motion to continue the Plant Vogtle expansion project, evidence of his belief that nuclear energy will fuel Georgia's growth and success.
Echols has served on the commission since January 2011. He is currently vice chairman.
The winner of the June 17 primary will go on to face Democrat Alicia Johnson in the November election.
