Ross wants to bring positive change to Ionia County
He seeks seat on Board of Commissioners in August 4 GOP primary
Tim Ross says he’s ready to lead the charge for positive change in Ionia County.
That’s why he’s running for the District 3 seat on the Ionia County Board of Commissioners. The seat is vacant after longtime commissioner Larry Tiejama resigned.
Ross faces Robert Simpson in the August 4 Republican primary. District 3 includes Keene Township and portions of Easton and Ionia townships.
Ross says he’s committed to enhancing local governance and ensuring that every voice is heard “with a vision rooted in community engagement and improvement.”
“I’ve had the honor of serving as a County Commissioner before, where I worked on budgets, infrastructure and making sure taxpayer dollars were used responsibly,” Ross says on his campaign website. “That experience taught me something important: county government works best when it stays focused on the basics – roads, public safety and responsible spending.”
Ross says his experience in local government helps him understand “the unique challenges we face and is passionate about working alongside residents to build a better future.”
In addition to previously serving as a county commission in Lapeer County, Ross also previously served as a member of the North Branch Village Council. He touts extensive work in community programs, volunteering for local nonprofits and being a voice for constituents at town hall meetings.
He also serves as chairman of the Ionia County Republican Party and has served as a Michigan Republican State Committee member for the past three years, including chairing the Budget Committee during the most recent presidential election cycle when more than $20 million flowed through the state committee.
As a candidate, Ross says he is focused on building a government that listens to its citizens, prioritizes transparency and fosters collaboration. He says his vision includes enhancing local services, promoting sustainable development and ensuring that every voice is heard in the decision-making process.
“There’s something special about Ionia County,” Ross said this spring when he announced his candidacy. “It’s not just where we live – it’s where we raise our families, build our livelihoods and look out for our neighbors. It’s a place where people value hard work, common sense and treating others with respect. …
“I’m running because I believe our county deserves steady, experienced leadership focused on the issues that matter most.”
Ross lists five key issues on his campaign website. Those are:
· Community Infrastructure Improvement: Upgrading roads, parks and public spaces to enhance community accessibility and quality of life.
· Public Safety and Support for First Responders: Bolstering resources for local law enforcement and first responders to ensure safety for all residents.
· Affordable Housing Initiatives: Tackling the housing crisis by promoting affordable housing projects that meet the needs of our diverse community.
· Sustainable Environmental Practices: Prioritizing sustainable initiatives to protect the environment while fostering economic growth.
· Engaging Local Economy Development: Empowering local businesses and creating job opportunities for residents through supportive policies and community engagement.
“This campaign isn’t about politics or one single issue,” Ross says. “It’s about making sure our county is run the right way. These aren’t partisan issues – they’re common-sense priorities that affect every family in our county.”
Ross says his campaign is about community.
“We’ve all seen how division can hold communities back,” he says. “That’s not the path forward. I’m running to bring a steady, experienced approach that focuses on results – not controversy.
“You may not always agree with me on every issue, but you will always know that I am working to do what’s best for Ionia County.”
The Private Property Rights Institute is endorsing Ross.
“Tim believes in private property rights and the power of the free market to lift up all Ionia County residents,” PPRI Executive Director Charlie Kolean said. “That’s why the Private Property Rights PAC is proud to endorse Tim for County Commissioner.”
